Reopening Plan

We are so EXCITED for the return of our Generals!

We realize that many students and parents may be wondering what the traditional school setting will look like this year. You will be receiving an email which gives you a glimpse at Spring Hill Middle School’s re-opening plan. We have also uploaded these plans to our social media sites.

Arrival:

  • Parents are instructed to ask their child given questions (will be sent out later) each morning before sending their child to school.
  • Students’ temperatures will be taken each morning. Students exhibiting a fever will be placed in a monitored holding pattern and parents will be called.
  • Students should wear a mask.
  • Students without a temp, who arrive before 7:35 a.m., will go to the cafeteria or the gym in the morning. Student seating will maintain social distancing guidelines.
  • When the morning bell rings, students will be dismissed in a staggered and orderly fashion and will be expected to maintain social distancing practices in the hallway. Hallways will be monitored by teachers and staff. Changes of class will follow this same protocol.

Instruction:

  • Students should wear a mask.
  • Once in the classroom, students will be encouraged to observe CDC guidelines (i.e. masks, social distance, partitions, hand sanitizing, etc.).

Lunch:

  • Teachers will escort students to the cafeteria at their scheduled time (times will be staggered). Students will not touch any items in the serving line. Student seating will observe social distancing guidelines.
  • Options will be available during lunch times

Dismissal:

  • Students will be dismissed according to a staggered schedule.

SHMS re-opening plan is not currently allowing in-person fieldtrips or visitors. Attendance will be taking daily (traditionally/remote). Every student will be issued a device and, when applicable, textbooks (with an online component). Specialty classes will be offered (traditionally/remote) observing social distancing. Students will be encouraged to limit personal belongings and use their individual lockers. Students may bring their own water containers (use the re-filling water stations).

Spring Hill Middle School is fortunate enough to have a large facility that allows us to adequately social distance.  Below are examples of our “new normal”. Please continue to monitor MCPS and SHMS website updates.
